The purpose of this work is to integrate the notion of artistic research into a broader framework of academic research, taking into account the role and functions of art, the art of theatre, in our case.

Through this, we will gain a deeper understanding that artistic research is not merely a simple commentary or marginal gloss on a creation (artefact or performance), but rather an extension of it. At the same time, it does not seek to imitate scientific research, but rather to define a specific model of producing meaning and understanding the world, based on experience (and not on the quantifiable results of experience), on corporeality, on creative expression, and on reflective thinking. As a result, artistic research is placed in a relationship of epistemic complementarity with scientific research, demonstrating that everything that surrounds us, including artistic productions, does not fall within what is called logical, analytical and deductive knowledge, but expresses unstable, ambivalent and contextual gestures, acts and actions (including verbal ones).
