A doua privire - Studii în istoria teatrului
Synopsis
The seven studies collected in A Second Look draw their subjects and examples from twentieth-century Hungarian theatre history, ranging from Gizi Bajor’s performances in the 1930s and Antal Németh’s directorial programme to Lili Monori’s neo-avant-garde theatre practice in the 1990s. The studies examine both canonical and forgotten productions while reflecting on the possibilities of researching acting, the experimental spirit of director’s theatre, the position of women directors, and questions of theatrical memory and reception history. Although they differ not only in subject matter but also in methodology—among them are a career study and a Philther analysis—they nevertheless enter into dialogue with one another, connecting figures, productions, and acting practices.
